Being part of Battery Optimization and Monitoring - Technology Battery Optimization and Monitoring – Technology is a function within Volvo Energy that works with second life applications of vehicle battery packs, monitoring and data analytics, optimization of remaining useful life, battery safety and new offerings for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Working in very close cooperation with our colleagues from Volvo Group and especially Group Trucks Technology, we create new business offer opportunities as well as value propositions. What are we looking for in this specific role? We're on the lookout for a skilled engineer to take the helm in designing and developing electrical and functional topologies for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In this role, you'll be pivotal in crafting safety functions, devising control strategies, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Your strong technical prowess in system design, simulation, and risk analysis, coupled with your ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, will be key in driving our BESS projects forward. Your starting point will be to: •    Develop end to end functional specifications and requirements on system level in line with the overall requirements for BESS and ingoing components.  •    Secure and create safety functions such as fault detection and emergency shutdown systems. •    Implement and design control algorithms to manage energy storage charging and discharging and support in developing the control logic for BESS systems.  •    Integrate controls software with hardware such as power conversion systems, inverters, and other electrical components.  •    Support in the integration of various components such as battery packs, power conversion systems and controls systems.  •    Create functional safety and technical safety concepts for high-voltage battery preconditioning and low-voltage supply systems. •    Create and maintain detailed technical documentation necessary for the development, validation, and certification of BESS products.  Welcome to a global team unified by an important mission, great ideas, fun, diversity, and inclusion. Qualifications likely required to be successful  •    Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. •    Minimum of 5 years of experience in system design and development within the automotive, energy storage or related industry. •    Proven track record in designing and implementing electrical and functional topologies for complex systems. •    Hands-on experience with battery management systems (BMS), power conversions systems (PCS) and control systems.  •    Experience in developing safety functions and compliance with industry standards.  •    Proficiency in simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, COMSOL, OrCad Spice/LTspice for modelling and analysis.  •    Understanding of electrical safety standards, regulatory requirements, and grid codes relevant to BESS installations.  The location for the position will be Gothenburg in Sweden.  Are you excited to bring your skills and disruptive ideas to the table?
