The use of finite element Human Body Models in road safety bring the possibilities of evaluating injuries for wider sections of the population and road users. In this project, you will work towards the development of human body models and associated workflows for injury assessment of Vulnerable road users. In this postdoc position, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the open soure VIVA+ model, working with international group of researchers from the academia and industry. Information about the division and the department At the Vehicle Safety Division in the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences, the research focuses on understanding and improving the safety of road users applying engineering and human factors methods. Specifically within injury prevention research, we work from the scales microscopic to the whole human to understand and model the human body's response to external loading. The group is well known in its field for the development of human body models (SAFER HBM, VIVA+). In this project, you will work with VIVA+ Open Source Models, being involved in its development and validation with a particular focus on responses relevant to vulnerable road users (pedestrian, cyclists, micromobility) Major responsibilities You will work towards the further development of the VIVA+ finite element models, contributing in model development, verification, and validation. You will be expected to work with VIVA+ Developer Team and other contributors across various universities and organisations. The work will also include implementing machine-learning based workflows to extract crash kinematics from real-word incidents and simulate crash reconstruction. Qualifications Mandatory Educational qualifications: • PhD in Mechanical/Biomedical engineering, with experience in computational models of human body mechanics Meritorious Experience: • Experience of crash simulations with LS-DYNA, Python programming, Open Source projects • As the work will be conducted in a highly multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment, cultural awareness and good collaboration and communication skills are fundamental. It is equally important that you are quality-conscious and self-propelled. As a post-doctoral researcher you also have to be responsible and creative.
