Technical Leader Exterior Lighting About Exterior Systems The department Exterior Systems within Volvo Cars R&D has the responsibility to develop some of the complex exterior systems in our vehicles. This involves development of customer functionality, system design, hardware design, software development, and verification on all levels. The technical responsibility of the department covers full system solutions in various areas, among them exterior lighting (front and rear), wipers, washers, sensor cleaning, and rear-view systems/mirrors.  What you will do We are now looking for a Technical Leader within the area of Exterior Lighting. It is a central position in our ambition to develop the most attractive and safe products on the market. In that role, you will provide and take on a global leadership in an area that is constantly striving towards new and innovative solutions. You will be part of the continuously ongoing research and development of Exterior Lighting, with a cross-functional and business-oriented mindset. You contribute to the development of Exterior Lighting strategies and technical roadmaps in collaboration with other stakeholders within the department and within the company, needless to mention the importance of a close relationship with our Design department. Your deep knowledge regarding legislation related to Exterior Lighting is important and you will be the company representative in various regulatory committees globally. Part of your job is to stay up to date with the latest legal requirements and to contribute to the automotive global regulatory community. With a hands-on approach, you will drive knowledge creation and contribute to the development and integration of Exterior Lighting functions in a broad perspective, utilizing all opportunities and a global network, striving towards world-leading lighting solutions. You as a Technical Leader will identify needs, execute front-line research, and drive increasing organizational competence by mentoring, coaching, teaching, and support within the area of specialty. You work actively to stay updated in regard to trends within the field through multiple sources such as academia, suppliers, benchmarks, etc.  You will be part of a very skilled team with an extensive, accumulated knowledge base and we see that you can contribute to all aspects of that team, with a high focus on your experience from legal requirements and automotive Exterior Lighting legislation. What you will bring  •    A deep knowledge and understanding of functions and technologies in the automotive Exterior Lighting area.  •    Understanding of customer needs and experience in complete vehicle product development. •    High strategic capability and business mindset. •    Collaboration and network building, internally and externally. •    High level of internationally recognized leadership and technical expertise within Exterior Lighting.  •    Capability to initiate, develop, and drive cross-functional work.  •    Knowledge in mentoring, coaching, and teaching. •    Advanced English skills, verbally and in writing. •    High communication skills and ability to represent the company in the expert area.  Experience:  •    PhD or equivalent, in a relevant field. 15+ years of Exterior Lighting experience in the automotive industry. •    Extensive experience and knowledge regarding legal requirements related to Exterior Lighting. •    Experience in communication with governmental authorities and external technical organizations. •    Significant experience in leading and developing teams and professionals.  •    Comprehensive experience in Exterior Lighting research i.e. requirement/methods, concept development, engineering, analysis, verification & validation. •    Documented publication records in relevant technical areas (papers, patents, reports, etc.).
