Department of Ecology At the Ecology Centre of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in Uppsala, Sweden, we conduct research on populations, communities and ecosystems. We generate knowledge on how land use and climate affects animals, plants, nutrient cycling and greenhouse gas balance, and develop sustainable solutions for the future. Read more about our benefits and what it is like to work at SLU at https://www.slu.se/en/about-slu/work-at-slu/ About the position You will work in a team with another person, taking water samples, sediment samples and filtering samples for later eDNA analysis. If you have good knowledge of birds, you will also inventory birds in the wetland. Furthermore, you will map relevant environmental variables, such as vegetation types in the wetlands. The work involves some contact with landowners and grazing animals and may involve entering the wet areas. You will allocate your working time together and set up a schedule of when and where you will carry out the surveys. For field inventory, the usual working day may be 10 hours, and work can start as early as 5am due to animal activity (including travel). You must be prepared to spend the time necessary to complete the work at the place where the work started. Your profile You should have a degree in biology, ecology or equivalent as judged by the employer and/or very good experience of being in the field. You should have good field experience and good knowledge of birds and/or macrophytes is an advantage, but not essential. Good field experience of inventorying wetlands, taking water samples for eDNA analyses or taking other types of water samples from lakes or wetlands is also an advantage. Applicants should be able to work independently, accurately and as part of a team. We attach great importance to personal qualities. You should be able to communicate in English. B driving licence is an asset. Location: Uppsala. Form of employment: Seasonal employment as a field assistant. The period is approximately 1.5 months from May to the middle of June, with the possibility of extension if needed. Scope: 100%. Start date: May, according to agreement.
