HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit energy over long distances and for power transmission via submarine cables. It is also used to connect different power systems. We are now looking for a seasoned professional, who has an approximate experience of at least 5 years in design and commissioning of AC substations protection and control. In this role, you will be part of the HVDC unit where you are involved in the later stages of system test in Hitachi Energy premises. You will lead the commissioning activities of Protection (both AC and DC) and SCADA at customer’s premises, be part of the hand-over and trial operation of HVDC links, and have a direct interface with our customers.

As a Protection Expert – Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will have the opportunity to utilize your expertise in protection of power systems from the field of AC substations. You will develop your competence in HVDC Control and Protection technology, while leading some of the most interesting projects in the energy field. Your Responsibilities

  • Organizing and executing activities related to testing and commissioning work including responsibility for organizing test equipment.
  • Leading technical discussions with the client and the client’s consultants.
  • Prepare commissioning test plans and test instructions and drive customer discussion about test plans before and during commissioning activities.
  • Witness FATs of our suppliers, perform commissioning of protection relays, and/or lead other team members in doing so.
  • Join testing activities at our FST activities when commissioning planning allows it.
  • Keeping yourself well informed about the socpe, division of work, and delivery assuring that commitments to the customer are met and in accordance with the contract.
  • Ensuring that all changes are identified and communicated to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Supporting in tender work for commissioning scope.
  • Participating in and analyzing disturbances that may occur on the system during the commissioning and operation.

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
  • Experience in testing IED relays (ABB IED experience is an advantage) and SCADA testing.
  • Experience from designing substation secondary circuits and programming protection relays. Protection coordination studies experience would be considered as an advantage.
  • Experience from AC substations commissioning (HVDC projects experience would be an advantage).
  • Experience with IEC61850 is required, knowledge of MACH would be an advantage.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as an ability to coach others in the commissioning area.
  • Ability to work according to relevant legislations and standards but with a pragmatic and smooth way of working, and capacity to handle many parallel activities.

Additional Data

Several locations worldwide can be considered as primary location of this role, with short-term worldwide travel required for joining commissioning activities.
