Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology We are looking for you that want to contribute to future sustainable plant production, in a local and global perspective. We offer a postdoctoral position within biological control of diseases in tomato production, where microorganisms are used to improve plant health and increase production in a sustainable way. About the position Tomato production is threatened by several different diseases. In order to increase production and reduce the use of chemical pesticides, more sustainable and efficient plant protection strategies must be developed. In this project, the microbial diversity within commercial tomato production will be studied using DNA-based methods. Microorganisms will be isolated, and evaluated for their efficacy in protecting tomatoes against diseases, both at laboratory scale and in commercial green houses in collaboration with growers. The project include international collaboration with colleagues in South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya and Austria. Your profile We are looking for a motivated person with specific expertise in microbiology and plant pathology. Qualification requirements • Completed doctor's degree in agronomy, microbiology, plant pathology, or similar. • Advanced conceptual and analytical ability in relevant areas. • Experience of research in plant-microorganism interactions. • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English. Meritorious qualities • Good knowledge of biological control of plant diseases. • Good knowledge of working with fungi and bacteria. • Good knowledge of DNA-based analyses of microbial communities. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as ability to work independently, flexibility, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, to be constructive in scientific collaborations, curiosity and willingness to learn as well as good analytical skills. The position is intended for a junior researcher and we are primarily looking for people who have completed their doctorate no more than three years ago.
