The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a partnership organisation of 13 European member countries located in the city of Lund, Sweden. About the role: We are now looking to appoint an Installation/Construction Leader – the ESS title is Installation Package Leader (IPL) – for the Neutron Scattering Systems Division (NSS). The IPL will join a new and growing team at ESS of IPL’s, Area Coordinators and Instrument Technicians, directly reporting to the Installation Section Leader. This team will manage the day by day on-site installation of components for the neutron scattering instruments. Your main responsibilities and tasks will include: • Leading the installation or construction preparation and execution for various technical, mechanical, electrical, or civil works related to NSS Installation Packages. • During the preparation phase, work leading up to successful Installation Readiness Review: • Assembly of the Installation Binder and associated documents, including drawings, installation procedures, time schedule, inspection plans, work orders, and Risk Assessment Method Statements. • Booking of ESS resources according to the time schedule (e.g. rigging personnel, surveyors, mechanical, electrical, vacuum technicians etc. etc.). • Interfaces with Work Package (WP) Engineer, Area Coordinator, Safety and Quality representative. • During the execution of the Installation Package, directing the actual installation on site, whether by technician, contractor, as identified during the planning phase: • Solve problems encountered during the installation, but recognizing when to involve the WP Engineer and/or escalating to the Installation Section Leader. • Contractor Field Management. The IPL will also play a key role by executing the following tasks: • Coordination of installation and quality inspections and related documentation, including providing red-lining drawings back to the WP Engineer. • Ensure that the installation follows all rules and regulations during installation and that necessary documents and material are available in time for the installation work. • Ensure that work is carried out safely and responsibly. • Coordinate deliveries and receipt inspection. • Contribute to forward planning of installations, including encouraging engineering staff to meet delivery and installation dates. • Participate and contribute to design reviews, particularly regarding installability and practicality. • Provide additional safety oversight on activities in Instrument Halls. This is a 3-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension, based in Lund, Sweden. In the future, this role may require some shift work, which will be compensated for according to our collective agreement. About you: As the successful candidate you might have a degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or similar relevant technical area, in combination with solid working experience from those areas, for example as a construction crew supervisor. It is an advantage if you have dealt with installation work in a scientific or technical facility. You have leadership experience and enjoy interacting with colleagues and contractors from different backgrounds, as well as with In-kind partners, in an international context. As a person you take initiative and work proactively, and have the ability to make decisions, in alignment with rules and regulations. You are used to working in Microsoft Office and also Enovia, CATIA, Naviswork or similar systems. You feel comfortable communicating in English, as it is the working language at ESS. Knowledge in Swedish is an advantage. What can we offer?
