About us
The department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology is the largest mathematics department in Sweden with about 200 employees. The department has three scientific divisions, Algebra and Geometry, Analysis and Probability Theory, and Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
We have an international environment with frequent exchanges with other universities around the world. The department provides a creative and supportive atmosphere with a steady flow of international guests. There are many committed teachers with extensive and broad experience of all aspects of higher education.
More information about us can be found on our website: http://www.chalmers.se/math/
At https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/mv/research/division-of-algebra-and-geometry/, we conduct research at a high international level in areas such algebraic geometry, complex analysis, number theory and representation theory. We are now looking for a project assistant strengthening our research in complex analysis.
Job description
This research project position is about numerical simulations and theoretical investigations of finite-dimensional matrix Lie-Poisson discretizations of the 2-D Euler equations, with a particular emphasis on the connection to topics and techniques from Kähler-Einstein geometry. These matrix discretizations preserve the rich phase space geometry of the 2-D Euler equations, such as co-adjoint orbits, Casimir functions, and Hamiltonian structure of the phase flow, which makes them suitable for studying the long-term behavior of generic solutions via computer simulations.
