You will be working in a research group that addresses the correlation between structure and properties in high quality material structures on topics of current interest. You will be using state-of-the-art electron microscopy and spectroscopy. The research group has a wide spread international contact network with exchange programs with research labs in Europe, Japan and USA. About the position This position is supported by the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation. You will study 2D structures using advanced electron microscopy including imaging, diffraction and spectroscopy. The microscopy provides site specific information with high spatial resolution and high precision that is crucial for the understanding of how to control the materials properties. Using our unique in situ capabilities you will directly correlate electrical, mechanical and optical properties to the detailed material structure. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with partners that fabricate and characterise the properties of materials and devices, develop the theory for the mechanisms determining the properties and define the targeted performance of the devices. Information about department and the division The physics department has a very broad and interdisciplinary profile including activities driven by fundamental questions and curiosity as well as by societal needs and development. The position is placed at the Division of Nano and Biophysics and the Eva Olsson Group. The group focuses on advanced electron microscopy of materials for quantum, energy and health science and applications. The group uses state-of-the-art electron microscopes for imaging, diffraction, spectroscopy and in situ studies to correlate the atomic structure of the materials to properties. The work also includes method developments to further expand the analytical capabilities of the electron microscopy. Major responsibilities Your major responsibility is to pursue the goals of your research project. You are also expected to develop own ideas and find your own ways in tackling research challenges. The position may also include some level of supervision of bachelor and master students. Another important aspect involves national and international collaboration with experimental research groups. Qualifications To qualify as a post doc, you should hold a PhD degree in physics and have a strong interest in condensed matter physics. You should already have some skills in electron microscopy Finally, you should enjoy working in a collaborative environment including interactions with both theoreticians and experimentalists. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers). Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*. * The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree. Contract terms This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
